Sad News and Other Updates

We’ve had a very sad time this past weekend.  Nellie, our 17 year old Peke-a-Poo, had taken a turn for the worse, so we helped her pass over.  She’d had congestive heart failure for a long time, as well as a bad back… the weekend, even at rest her breathing was really labored.  Funny, she never really complained—just tried to stay as still as she could so it didn’t hurt so much.

Many of you have met Nellie at the office.  She would often come hang out in the waiting room to greet people, or follow me or Brad back to our rooms and snore while we worked.  Once upon a time, we could show off her tricks to kids who came in (she could sit up, roll over and do “high fives”).  I’ll always remember the spouse of a patient who would cuddle up with Nellie on the couch and snooze while their partner had acupuncture; she said it was the best hour of her week.  It makes me smile to think of how many of you would drop down onto the floor to play with Nellie, or even bring your own dog in to meet her.

Trooper will never be the kind of office dog that Nellie was.  Although he loves people (and especially other dogs!), he has a hard time hanging out with us more than a few hours at a time.  At that point, he either throws himself onto our laps (at 85 pounds, you can imagine what that is like!) or puts his snout under our hand and pops it up from our computer mouse.  That is his sign for “hey, can’t we go take a walk or something?”.

We’re thinking that Nellie is busy chasing rabbits or just hanging out on a rock surveying the world around her.  We’re really, really grateful for the time she spent with us.  (See the end of this post for a recent photo of her).

Ah, sweet Nellie-oh. What a tender spiritual little office partner, there for me each time I could have time to hang out with her. Certainly she blessed your lives and ours, and the angels must’ve had need for her bigheartedness for a spell before you see her again. Balm on the wounds and love in my heart for you and Brad and Trooper. Thank you for sharing her with us and thank you for being able to help her out of her pain. I know she is grateful and loves you very much. Love, Claudia

I am so sorry to hear about Nellie. It is very hard when a pet passes. It seems so unfair that they only live such a short time.

Thinking of you, Brad and Trooper

I was looking at the upcoming seminars and noticed that the “Take Back Your Power to Be Calm” seminar is dated Sunday, 7/10. There must be a typo on the Sunday date as the 10th of July falls on a Tuesday. Please advise. Thanks!

    • Dr. Wendy Warner05-22-2012

You’re right. I had not noticed that when I got the info from Dr Burger. I have a message in to her now to find out which date is correct. Will repost that info once I have it!

  13. Susie DeLuca05-22-2012

    Dear Wendy and Brad,
We are so sorry to hear this news. We know how much you loved Nellie and how big a part of your life she was. Sometimes animals are so special that they leave impressions on your heart deeper than most people do and it is so hard to say good bye to them. She gave you many years of love which reflected the love you gave to her. She lived a wonderful life thanks to you and probably tried to show her appreciation every day. Know that she is comfortable now and she will live on in your hearts forever and of those that she touched along the way.
    Susie and Larry

  14. Mich05-22-2012

I am so very sorry to hear about Nellie. Losing a beloved pet, a member of family, is so difficult. May she rest in peace, having lived a lovely doggie life. It is the most we can wish for our pets.
